Man Sentenced on Drug and
Firearms Charges
United States Attorney Karen P. Hewitt
announced that David Trung Nguyen was sentenced today
in federal court in San Diego by United States District
Judge Larry A. Burns to serve 211 months in prison
for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute
and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a
drug trafficking crime. Judge Burns also ordered Nguyen
to serve five years of supervised release and to forfeit
the firearms and ammunition involved in the offense.
Nguyen pled guilty to the same crimes in January 2008.
Court documents reflect that on October 6, 2007, plain
clothes San Diego police officers saw Nguyen leave
a residence driving erratically. A marked patrol unit
stopped Nguyen, a documented associate of the Tiny
Oriental Crips street gang. A search of Nguyen’s
truck found about 110 grams of methamphetamine and
a loaded firearm in the mid-console. A subsequent search
warrant at Nguyen’s residence found two more
handguns, an AR-15 assault rifle, ammunition and magazines,
and an additional 295 grams of methamphetamine.
