Former Teacher Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography

United States Attorney Karen P. Hewitt announced that Eric Don Standefer was sentenced today in federal court in San Diego by United States District Court Judge Marilyn L. Huff to serve 70 months in custody based on Standefer’s conviction for possession of child pornography. Judge Huff also ordered that Standefer serve a five-year term of supervised release following his release from prison and required Standefer to register as a sex offender. Standefer, a former music teacher as Jean Farb Middle School in San Diego, pled guilty on November 27, 2007.

According to court-filed documents, the investigation began when the Federal Bureau of Investigation learned that individuals were using the online currency “E-gold” to purchase access to child pornography websites. Standefer was identified as one of the purchasers and was found to posses CD-Roms which had images of children engaged in sexually explicit activity.

Judge Huff order Standefer immediately into custody to begin serving his sentence.
