Major emergency training exercise to be held May 10-11 at San Diego International Airport
FBI, TSA & other agencies to take part in Airport Authority exercise

WHAT: An overnight emergency training exercise will take place at the San Diego International Airport from 10 p.m. Thursday, May 10 to 5:30 a.m. Friday, May 11. The exercise is being coordinated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, with participation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and several local law enforcement, emergency response and other agencies.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires emergency drills to be held at least every three years at major airports. However, the Airport Authority holds full-scale exercises more regularly. The objective of the exercise is to test the crisis response of multiple agencies who would be involved in responding to a critical hijacking incident. This year's drill will involve a simulated attempted hijacking of an aircraft. Because it is taking place overnight and mostly on the north side of the airfield, exercise activities should not be noticeable to adjacent neighborhoods. The exercise will involve more than 75 people from about a dozen agencies.

NOTE: An opportunity for media to film a portion of the exercise involving Emergency Operations Center activities will be available at 1 a.m. Friday, May 11 at the Commuter Terminal, Third Floor. Interested media should contact Sharie Shipley at (619) 838-8245 no later than May 10.

WHEN: Thursday, May 10 through Friday, May 11, 2007
