FBI Agents Arrest Two on Child Pornography Charges

FBI Special Agent in Charge Keith Slotter announces the arrest of Danny Ernest Sherman, age 53, of San Diego, and Darren Thomas Scully, age 32, of San Diego. Both men were arrested at their residences today, November 26, 2008, as a result of two separate Internet Crimes Against Children task force investigations.

Danny Ernest Sherman was arrested without incident this morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(4)(B), possession of child pornography. This investigation began in early July, 2008, when Sherman ’s employer discovered his downloading files containing child pornography.

Likewise, Darren Thomas Scully was arrested at approximately 6:45 a.m. on the same charges, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(4)(B). His complaint remains under seal by order of a U.S. Magistrate Judge.

Both men were booked into the Metropolitan Correction Center and await their initial appearances.

Both investigations were conducted under the FBI's Innocent Images National Initiative (IINI).  IINI is a component of FBI's Cyber Crimes Program. It is an intelligence driven, proactive, multi-agency investigative operation to combat the proliferation of child pornography/child sexual exploitation (CP/CSE) facilitated by an online computer. The IINI provides centralized coordination and analysis of case information that by its very nature is national and international in scope, requiring unprecedented coordination with state, local, and international governments and among FBI field offices and Legal Attachés.

The FBI encourages the public to report suspected child predators and any suspicious activity to their local FBI office at (858) 565-1255.
